New Road toilets

August 24th 2021

The newly refurbished toilets on New Road are accessible to EVERYONE. They are opened and closed electronically from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday inclusive. They are locked at night to prevent vandalism.

You do not need a RADAR key to access them during opening times.

Alongside the individual unisex toilets, which are suitable for everyone including disabled users, there is also a state of the art Changing Places facility. Due to the expensive, specialised equipment within this facility, access is restricted. To gain access you need to obtain a code from the Changing Places organisation, their contact number is outside the facility. Regular users of Changing Places facilities are accustomed to this procedure.

A Changing Places toilet is larger than a standard accessible WC, and includes specialist equipment, such as a hoist and an adult-sized changing bench. Standard accessible toilets do not provide changing benches or hoists, and most are too small to accommodate more than one person. Thousands of people with disabilities cannot use these types of facilities, and need support from one or two carers to use the toilet or to have their continence pad changed.

Each Changing Places toilet is the size of a standard car-parking space, and includes additional equipment. Users include people with severe and multiple learning disabilities and people with a range of other disabilities, such as muscular dystrophy and muscle-wasting conditions, cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, some older people and other specific disabilities.

If you have any questions regarding these facilities please contact the Town Council on 01579 384039 or email enquiries@callington-tc.gov.uk
