Cemetery Mermorial Safety Testing

Callington Town Council is continuing its memorial safety testing programme, which has been ongoing at Callington Cemetery since 2024.

As the landowner, the Town Council has a responsibility to ensure the Cemetery remains a safe place for the public to visit. Council employees have received industry training to identify and test memorials for stability.
Any memorials found to be unsafe will be temporarily secured with a stake and cordoned off. In some cases, as a last resort, memorials may need to be laid flat.

The Council will make every effort to contact the person recorded as responsible for any affected memorial. The Council does not carry out repairs, but can provide details of local British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM) members who can undertake the necessary work.

We ask visitors to take notice of warning signs and exercise caution around memorials while testing is taking place.
If you have visited the Cemetery and know someone who is responsible for a memorial, please get in touch with the Town Council office.
