‘Please be kind’

As guidelines for self-isolating and social distancing come into play, we have found that most, if not all, of the events planned in and around Callington over the next month or so have been postponed or cancelled. We understand and appreciate that precautions need to be taken to protect ourselves, but we also need to make sure that those who are vulnerable are not being forgotten.

We are currently finalising the April edition of the newsletter and are putting together some advice which may help you cope with the difficult times we are experiencing at the moment. There is a wealth of information online and on social media but we are very aware that there is a large proportion of our community that don’t have access to a computer or a tablet let alone the internet!

Please, please do not sit at home and worry; there are people out there in the community who want to help you. You can call the Town Council offices on 01579 384039 between 9.00am and 2.00pm and we will get help to you as best we can or pass your details on to one of the voluntary groups who can help you. There are some wonderful people in Callington who are ready and willing to help you with anything from getting your shopping, walking your dog to posting a letter or just having a chat.

We are entering a time that has not been seen before not only by our residents, but across the whole world. The next few months will be tough, especially for those who are already socially isolating, people with underlying medical conditions, the homeless, those facing reductions in household income and of course all of our local businesses.

We need to be responsible in our actions and encourage others to do the same. Most of all we need to be kind and considerate to others.

Can we also take this opportunity to give thanks and praise to those in our community who are still going to work to keep our lives as safe and normal as possible, such as care workers, lorry drivers, delivery couriers, supermarket teams, chemists, surgeries, volunteer groups and community staff along with our emergency services, NHS and government staff and agencies at all levels.

Please stay safe dear people
