South Hill Road Traffic Calming Measures – Consultation

It is proposed to establish traffic calming measures consisting of a ‘raised flat top table’, width restriction feature – ‘build-outs’ and ‘coloured road surfacing’ on South Hill Road, Callington. These works form part of the S278 Agreement in association with the new housing development.


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Cornwall Council, proposes to construct a flat top road hump/raised table on South Hill Road, Callington, of the type specified below. The introduction of this traffic calming feature forms part of the S278 Agreement in association with the new housing development and has been proposed to reduce vehicle speeds and improve road safety for all road users.

Flat Top Road Hump/Raised Table
Located approximately 40 metres North West of its junction with Glebe Meadow and 75 metres South East of its junction with Greenfield Close. Laid in the carriageway, having a rise of 75 millimetres, a width to cover the full carriageway for a distance of 20 metres and 5 metres west into the access road junction of the new development. The stated horizontal and vertical dimensions are subject to permitted pavement construction tolerances.

    Waste of time and money that could be better spent providing speed control at Bray Shop. its well within the 30 mile an hr limit/Callington Town boundary. Why slow it down more.

    These measures look reasonable to me but something should be done at the top where this lane meets the main Launceston Road. This is a dangerous junction with a hill start and poor visibility – an accident waiting to happen.
