My name is Helen Dowdall and I am the Town Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer. I have lived in and around the town virtually all my life, having been brought up on my parents’ dairy farm. My background is in finance, having graduated from Plymouth University with a degree in Accountancy & Finance, I started full time employment on a management training programme in the banking sector and I then went on to take my professional accountancy exams (FCCA). Prior to this position, I worked at West Devon Borough Council, where I held the position of Chief Accountant for a number of years.
Outside work I have been involved with a variety of organisations within Callington all my life, such as Brownies, the Callington Young Farmers Club and more recently the Lions Club of Callington.
The role of the Town Clerk is to integrate with the people, have a constructive and positive ‘can-do’ attitude towards community groups, events and services that will ultimately benefit the town. The Clerk is there to serve the community and with my knowledge of the local area and experience in local government I feel that I’m equipped to do this job well.

I have lived in the local area for the past 15 years. I am currently based in Kelly bray where I live with my fiancé Hannah and dog Tess.
Over the past two years I have studied to achieve my FdSc in Rural Environmental Management. This led to the opportunity to work for Callington Town Council on a part-time basis as a member of the outside services team.
I am currently studying to achieve my BSc in Rural Business Management with the aim of developing my knowledge and skill base.
Jo has lived in Callington, on and off, for 27 years. In April, she will have worked for Callington Town Council for 10 years as Town Clerk Assistant. As well as assisting the Town Clerk in administration duties, her other roles include handling administration for the main office as well as dealing with queries and complaints from members of the public, face to face and on the telephone.
In liaison with the Outside Services Committee she manages and maintains waiting lists for two allotments sites within the Town and also liaise with funeral directors with regard to burials in the Cemetery. She handles and processes the paper work for burials and memorials and assist members of the public with any queries regarding the Cemetery. She is also responsible for sending out civic invitations to the many events that the Mayor and Portreeve holds throughout the year including Mayor Choosing and the Town’s Remembrance Service.
Having been with the Town Council for many years, she has a broad knowledge of the Town, past events, etc. If you have any enquiries regarding Callington and Kelly Bray, please pop in and ask and she will do her best to help. If Jo can’t help you she probably knows someone who can!
